Saber Chelaghma third year PhD student at IRT Saint Exupéry won the Sampe Europe Student Symposium 2017 in Stuttgart. His thesis is supervised by Clément Ader Institute and Airbus.
SAMPE Europe
The European contest of the SAMPE Student Symposium 2017 took place in Stuttgart (Germany) from 14th to 16th of November. After winning the national selection, Saber took the 1st place of the competition with his presentation: “Crystallization kinetic modelling of multifunctional thermoplastic composites… First step towards mechanical and electrical optimization”.
After winning the SAMPE France & Europe, Saber will participate in the CAMX – the Composite & Advanced Materials eXpo in October 2018, in Dallas. This event is organized by ACMA and SAMPE.
SAMPE France : Technical Days
As the French winner of the 32nd edition, Saber had the privilege to present his work during the SAMPE technical days of chapter France.
Sponsored by the IRT Saint Exupéry, the cocktail reception of the SAMPE France days, in collaboration with Airbus (sponsor of the gala diner), took place on November 23rd. This event was the occasion for Saber to present his work in front of an audience of 400 industrials.
Ariel Sirat, IRT’s CEO, also presented the Thermoplastics and Addictive Manufacturing activities of IRT Saint Exupéry in a speech.
THESIS SUBJECT
PAEK/Carbon fiber composites functionalization for aerospace application: Characterization, modelling and influence study on composite properties.
ABOUT THIS THESIS
In the frame of COMPINNOVTP project, new high performance thermoplastic solutions are investigated to contribute to further mass and cost reduction for the aerospace industry. But current composites have too low electric conductivity properties because of the polymer matrix. In order to insure without risks the electrostatic charge flow (as lightning strike, air friction…) IRT Saint Exupéry investigates conductive fillers integration in a high performance polymer.
One of the studied polymer has lower fabrication costs and lower processing temperatures compared to others. It also may have different formulations with different properties. The possibility of varying the physicochemical properties of polymer is very interesting, but the difficulties related to the control of crystallization make it a disadvantage. Saber Chelaghma researches aim to understand these phenomena to improve control and optimization of manufacturing cycles of carbon fibers reinforced polymer.
The final objective is the identification of the process parameters to obtain optimum mechanical properties during manufacturing cycles.
